Christianity Today Profiles Exodus International
September 19, 2007
Orlando, FL- One of the leading
evangelical publications details the rise and growth of the ex-gay movement and
profiles the work of Exodus International in an article entitled "An Older,
Wiser Ex-Gay Movement" in its October issue.
Tim Stafford, a senior
reporter at Christianity Today, attended
the 2007 Exodus Freedom Conference and says of ex-gay ministry today, "No hype.
Limited faith in techniques. No gay bashing. No detectable triumphalism,
religious or political. Just serious discipleship. This may be the only group in
America that realizes all the way to the bottom that when you decide to follow
Jesus, you don't always get to do what you want to do. . . . They live by
radical ideas about sexuality-that we are not, as our culture would have it,
defined by our desires, heterosexual or homosexual. Rather, we are defined by
our Creator and Savior."
Exodus President Alan Chambers was interviewed
for the piece, and says, "Exodus is dedicated to helping men and women
experience freedom from homosexuality and new life in Jesus Christ. As we
continue to witness change in the lives of men and women across the country, we
are confident that it will give way to a counter-cultural
transformation."
