Exodus Says Newsweek's Biblical
Commentary on Gay Marriage is a Mockery of Biblical Proportions
December 10, 2008
Orlando, FL- Newsweek drops a bomb on magazine racks this
week with its latest cover story, The Religious
Case for Gay Marriage. Exodus International, the largest Christian
ministry to those dealing with homosexuality, says the magazine's argument that
the Bible supports same-sex marriage is neither biblically correct, nor truly
compassionate.
Numerous biblical errors exist in the article, but Newsweek's main point of contention is as
religion editor Lisa Miller puts it, "A mature view of scriptural authority
requires us, as we have in the past, to move beyond literalism. The Bible was
written for a world so unlike our own, it's impossible to apply its rules, at
face value, to ours." According to Newsweek, the Bible is outdated and does not
mean what it says in regards to God's created intent for relationships in
Genesis or its multiple references to homosexual behavior as sin.
"Abandoning the truth of the Bible is not an option for those of us who
believe that these life-giving principles are the gateway to freedom and new
life," said Alan Chambers, former homosexual and President of Exodus
International. "For me and thousands of others, discovering the Bible's clear
teaching on sexuality and relationships opened a door to freedom we never
thought possible. Maligning and manipulating Scripture is a compassionless
disservice to those looking for spiritual and intellectual honesty about this
issue."
